GSW: 2019 NBA Legacy Project

Ira Jinkins Recreation Center Gets New NBA Cares Learn & Play Zone from the Golden State Warriors
As part of Finals tradition, the NBA and Golden State Warriors partnered up to open a new NBA Cares Learn & Play Zone at Oakland’s very own Ira Jinkins Recreation Center during the 2019 NBA Finals. Golden State Warriors players, executives, along with NBA leadership and local celebrities joined in the celebration to unveil the new Learn & Play Zone, which included four newly-renovated spaces: a multipurpose room, game room, study room, and library with computer stations featuring new technology, books, and interior design re-fresh.

GSW’s B+C Team led the re-design of the center, leaving a Warriors touch on the space that will live on for years to come—everything from The Town tree symbolizing growth and change, to customized Celebrate 47 poster art to commemorate the team’s time at Oracle and celebrate the city of Oakland. Beyond the overall decor of the space, the team also assisted in event branding and execution for the day to support multiple activities: story time with Alfonzo McKinnie and a class of therapy dogs in training, a DJ workshop with DJ D-Sharp and rapper Mistah Fab, martial arts exercises with Draymond Green, a hangout session with Daveed Diggs, slime fun with Damion Jones, and a healthy cooking class with Top Chef finalist, Michelle Minori.
